You can take your theory test once your provisional licence becomes valid.
Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valid is your 17th birthday. You can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday however, you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test. There are special circumstances in which you can apply for a provisional license at 16 due to disability, please see the Directgov website for more info.

Theory Test
The theory test is split into two sections. The first is a serious of multiple choice questions about driving practice, vehicle maintenance and road signs. The second, is the hazard perception test, in which you will watch a series of short driving videos, in which you will need to react to certain events.You can take your theory test once your provisional licence becomes valid.

Practical Driving Test

The driving test is straightforward and has been designed to see if you:
- Can drive safely in different road and traffic conditions
- Know The Highway Code and can demonstrate this through your driving
- An eyesight check - if you fail this, your test will not continue
- your examiner will ask you two questions about carrying out vehicle safety checks
Passing your Test
Once you have passed your driving test (both theory and practical), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) will need to be told. Whether it's for a car, motorcycle, lorry or bus you must exchange your test pass certificate within two years of passing your test - we can help you with this.That's it!
